You Have to Hear This :0}

I MUST add my #1, ALL TIME FAVORITE Christmas Song to my blog for posterity.

I think EVERY child needs to know this song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7xjjlUbpJ4

Here are the lyrics:

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
I don't want a doll, no dinkey tinker toys
I want a hippopotamus to play with and enjoy

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
I don't think Santa Claus will mind, do you?
He won't have to use a dirty chimney flue
Just bring him through the front door
That's the easy thing to do

I can see me now on Christmas morning
Creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy, what surprise
When I open up my eyes
To see a hippo hero standing there

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles, no rhinosauruses
I only likes hippopotamuses
And hippopotamuses like me, too

Mom says a hippo would eat me up, but then
Teacher says a hippo is a vegetarian

There's lots of room for him in our two-car garage
I'd feed him there and wash him there and give him his massage."

I can see me now on Christmas morning
Creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy, what surprise
When I open up my eyes
To see a hippo hero standing there

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles, no rhinosauruseses
I only likes hippopotamuseses
And hippopotamuses like me, too

I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas is a Christmas novelty song written by John Coctoasten and performed by Gayla Peevey in 1953. It is a Dr. Demento Christmas staple, and is currently available on Dr. Demento's The Greatest Novelty Records of All Time Vol. 6: Christmas.

Here's an interesting fact about the popular Christmas hippopotamus song - in 1953 a ten-year-old girl from Oklahoma, Gayla Peevey sang the song as a way to raise money for the Oklahoma City Zoo's first hippopotamus. It became a nationwide hit after that, although John Rox wrote the song "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" in 1950! The song was not written specifically for the Oklahoma zoo, its just that when they needed the hippo the song came out so the Christmas hippopotamus song just fit in.

Every Charm Has a Story

I have plans . . . GREAT plans.

I made this ring charm for Purse/Key as a gift for a friend and instantly fell in love with what it looked like. My plan is to start a series of these charms for close friends and family. If all goes well, and people want to buy them, the price will start at $25 for 10 charms and go up from there for any beads (like the pearls) and charms. Postage and handling will be added on.
Each "charm ring" made in this series will be custom made for the person. They will tell me the messages they want to convey and their color preference for beads and I will go from there. There will be multiple consultations along the way.

Here is the story for this ring. Start at the heart and go clockwise.

Heart ~ you hold a special place in my heart

Open Book with ABC ~ teaches/taught school

Oldster Angel ~ Everyone needs a guardian Angel, even we "oldsters."

Double Stars ~ You are a shining star in my world.

Apple ~ universal emblem for teachers

Winged Heart ~ parents are deceased

Heart Flag ~ served in military

Dog Bone ~ has dog

Glasses ~ wears/wore them

Mickey Mouse ~ has visited Disneyland/world

House ~ school house

Let me know what you think of them, please? Your feedback is very important to me.

Dog and Cat "Prince" Charmings

No, there are no prince's or princesses in this post, but soon, there will be a "dog print", hence the title.

I have seen dog and cat charms in the past. As a matter of fact, we had one for Indy but it's hook wore away. I wanted to make her another one, and thought how cute they would be as Christmas Presents for my "fur baby" friends.
So, again, here I am, standing on my Blog Corner saying, "Hey there followers, want to buy some goodies?"

These can all be found in my Etsy shop . . Oh, I also take custom orders :0}

Big Bucks, Big Bucks

With the catch phrase from Wheel of Fortune spinning in my head, I decided it was time to post the stitch markers/wine glass charms that I have made to sell on Etsy. I don't know how well it will go, but, hopefully, I will be able to sell enough, over time, to pay for all of the items I have bought to make what I want to sell. It has been keeping me occupied, so, whether they sell or not, it has been worthwhile . . . except I really don't need more "stuff" around the house . . so, please items, sell yourself.

Wherever you see the word Etsy, it will link you to my shop.Etsy page. Maybe this will help business. Make sure you check back often . . I will keep posting as I make new items.
Oh, by the way, I will do custom orders :0}

Have You Ever EATEN Welches Grape Juice that wasn't Frozen?

This past week we had a small arts & crafts/Farmers Market Festival in town. It was only about 1 block long but there were a lot of original art there . . . plus the great fall veggies from Kydd's Farm.

Last year we bought the WHITEST/HUGEST cauliflower from Kydds. I was hoping they would be there again this year with cauliflowers just as good as last year. I was lucky, they had them I should have taken a picture . . they were placed so they looked like giant white flowers on the end of their table. It as gorgeous. I was in "cauliflower" heaven.

Not only did we buy a cauliflower, we also bought a pie pumpkin (Yes, I am going to make a pumpkin pie from scratch this year. I have done it before anf it's easy . . but I lost that recipe so I will have too find another.) and CONCORD GRAPES. You know, the grapes that Welches make their grape juice from.

I have never eaten them before and the first grape took me back to my first communion at 9th Street Christian Church. It was unbelievable. I know that almost all of the grapes grown in the Southern Tier are concord that they grow for the local Welches plant . . . but I guess that I never thought that they were"eating" grapes. Was I ever surprised!

Once, when I was little, I drank a whole bottle of Welches Grape Juice. Mom said i wuld be sorry. I had no idea what she meant . . . but I soon found out. . . and our bathroom was upstairs and some of the trips (notice the s) were almost incomplete trips . . if you get my drift ;0}

So, I am practicing "safe graping" with these beauties.

Overboard

Overboard . . . . . I just LOVE the comic strip Overboard. No matter what iss going right, or wrong, in my life, Overboard makes me laugh.

For those of you who have never read an
Overboard strip, here is a little background Information:

Overboard
is Chip Dunham's imaginative comic strip, a loopy look at old-fashioned pirates going through the motions in a modern world. They've got the hats, the swords, the ship, the talking dog, the non-talking dog, the sea monsters, of course, but they also have a very nice on-deck vegetable garden, blow-up baby pool, and barbecue grill.

Sure, there are dangerous confrontations and duels with pirate competitors and stowaway bunnies and mice, but mostly the bad boys play tricks on each other, slackers in the face of violence. When Overboard isn't a metaphor for everyman's quest to be a workplace deadbeat, it's just plain silly -- the good kind of silly.

Louie, the non-talking dog, Raymond, who talks, the capitain and Big Nate.

The captain, Louie (with his paws in the pool) and Raymond, the talking dog.

Below are Big Nate, one of the pirates from another ship and Louie . . the non-talking dog.

Enjoy!
